Our Community Guidelines

We want the Maths Confidence Community to be a welcoming, inclusive and supportive place where everyone feels comfortable joining in.

People come here with different experiences of maths, different levels of knowledge and different reasons for being part of the community. Those differences are something to value.

To help make this a positive space for everyone, we’d ask all members to follow a few simple guidelines.

1. Be respectful and kind

Treat others with consideration, even when you disagree. Different opinions and approaches are welcome, but personal criticism, insults, hostility or disrespect are not.

2. Make space for everyone

Everyone’s experience of maths is different. Avoid making assumptions about someone’s ability, knowledge, background or circumstances. Remember that something which feels straightforward to one person may be a significant challenge for someone else.

3. Keep it constructive

We’re here to learn, share and support one another. Ask questions, offer suggestions and share experiences in a positive way.

4. Respect different perspectives

We welcome discussion, debate and different approaches to teaching and learning. Challenge ideas constructively rather than criticising the people sharing them.

5. Protect privacy

Don’t share other people’s personal information, private conversations or identifying details without their permission. Be mindful of what you share about yourself and others, particularly when discussing children and learners and never share any information about a learner or learner’s family that could identify them.

6. Keep discussions relevant

Try to post in the most appropriate category so others can find and engage with your discussion. Avoid spam, unsolicited advertising and repeated promotional posts.

7. Share responsibly

When sharing resources, research or information created by someone else, acknowledge the original source. Make sure you have permission to share materials where necessary.

8. Help us maintain a positive community

If you come across something that concerns you or doesn’t feel appropriate, please flag it for the moderators rather than getting drawn into an argument.

A final word

This community is something we’re building together. We won’t always get everything perfect, and we’ll continue to learn and improve as the community grows.

Our aim is simple: to create a space where people feel welcome, respected and encouraged to take part.

Thank you for helping us make that possible.
